Cherokee Plantation
Location: Yemassee, South Carolina
Scope: New 2,800 square foot residence
Cherokee Plantation is a privately held, historic plantation in Yemassee, South Carolina situated along the Salkehatchie River. Only a handful of its members have been allowed to build upon the property between the horse paddocks and rice paddies. This project design began with meetings with a landscape architect and homeowners to be sure each step of the vision would be realized in a multi-stage process.
The home was designed in keeping with the historic out-buildings of the plantation, with their red metal roofs and painted siding. Spacious porches open into the serene landscape. From within, the home affords views in every direction of the remarkable property, across an expanded inland pond on two sides and through the wooded glade behind to open fields.
